The University of Leeds approached Xenonex to help a technology team work in a more cohesive and collaborative manner.

THE OBJECTIVES

Following a discussion between Xenonex and the head of the technology team, it was agreed that a programme was required to address six key objectives:

  • Galvanising the team around a shared team purpose

  • Set the tone and gain support for a change in culture

  • Assist the teams to work more cohesively and collaboratively

  • Support team evolution and progression

  • Alignment team goals to organisation values

THE DEVELOPMENT

Based on requirements, Xenonex developed a bespoke impartial Team Coaching programme which involved a combination of 1 to 1 diagnostic workshops, 1 to 1 coaching sessions, team coaching sessions and 360 reporting.

The programme was designed to engage the technology team in a cognitive and emotionally immersive way and provide individuals with a provocative and reflective space to air their individual contributions to the team and explored what it would take for the team to work together. A challenging and supportive environment would be created to provide delegates with the psychological safety to have honest conversations to reach better outcomes for the whole team which would inspire them and allow them to grow.

After each session, our coaches would require prompt feedback from delegates to amend future sessions based on immediate views to ensure optimal results from the programme.

Excellent coaching service. The team found the group sessions useful for improving their performance and interpersonal relationships. The 1:1 sessions were thought-provoking and provided a much-needed space to be honest. I would recommend this service highly.”

Jon Stothard – Head of Service, University of Leeds

THE OUTCOMES

The overall programme scored 4.75 out of 5 by the technology team. The delegates were fully engaged, and they felt the sessions ran extremely smoothly but also allowed a certain degree of flexibility.

They felt that the programme allowed them to get to know each other better, increased trust and opened up the possibility to be honest and having tough conversations within the team in a more positive way. Individuals now feel like they are more connected with the team, have a voice and are more able to contribute.

Here are a few quotes from the delegates who attended the programme:

“Positive and friendly approach on tough subjects. Allowing us the space to talk and work through things we previously hadn’t, whilst still focusing on our future as a team and individually.”
“The coaches are fantastic people. They engage us and push us to speak our truths whilst being mindful of everyone. We had some difficult discussions and they facilitated us with care and empathy.”
“The coaches were very engaging…the use of words like 'sticky' when approaching difficult conversations made everyone in the room more at ease.”
